This is a super easy Tom Kha Gai (chicken coconut) soup recipe that you can cook without any experience and complete it within 12minutes or under including the preparations.
Tom Kha Gai soup ingredients
- Tom Kha Soup spices
- Coconut milk 400ml
- Water 400ml
- Chicken 400g
- 2 tomatoes
- 5 mushrooms
I used the Santa Maria Tom Kha Soup spice mixture which might not be available in your country but you can most likely get something very similar in your local supermarket. All the other ingredients are normal things you can get at the store.
Steps for making the Tom Kha Gai soup

I must admit it’s a very simple and kind of lazy form of cooking but if you are a busy parent and still want to cook something this is definitely a way of cooking that saves you tons of time and it’s still extremely good food. The steps are listed below:
- Add the water
- Add the coconut milk
- Add the Tom Kha spice mixture
- Heat until water boils
- Add the chicken
- Boil for 5 minutes
- Add the sliced up tomatoes and mushrooms
Verdict on this Tom Kha Gai soup recipe
Even without the mushrooms, the soup was good when eaten immediately. It was however even better the next day. The soup was a bit spicy which I liked. Considering the cooking time I would say this was extremely good value for time spent.
With the 400g of chicken, this amount was enough for 3 portions. Perhaps if you add the mushrooms as well you could stretch it to 4 portions as long as you serve something else with it like bread. You could also add some potatoes to the soup I bet it would fit very well.
