Is the Finnish Museum Card Worth It?

Also available in Suomi

With the Museum Card (Museokortti, 72€) you can visit more than 300 cultural sites in Finland over 12 months. It includes popular places such as Heureka, Ateneum, Kiasma, Amos Rex, Turku Castle and Forum Marinum.

Is the Museum Card worth it for an adult?

An adult who doesn’t belong to any discount group, such as pensioners, gets the most out of the Museum Card. If you visit museums and art exhibitions a lot, you will obviously save money with it. Still, let’s work out whether the Museum Card pays off, using examples for someone living in Turku and someone living in the Helsinki region.

The table below shows that visiting all the popular museums in Turku costs 92€ in tickets, so the Museum Card (72€) saves you 20€. In the same example, someone living in the Helsinki region saves 59€ by visiting the places in the table. If you also plan to visit a few places in another city, or go back to the same art museum when the exhibition changes, the savings grow clearly bigger.

Is the Museum Card worth it for a child?

There is currently no cheaper Museum Card for children. From the tables above we can see that a Museum Card rarely pays off for a school-age child. Visiting every popular museum listed above in Turku and the Helsinki region once adds up to only 64€ in tickets. That is because children’s tickets are very cheap or even free.

So you would have to be quite a fan of, say, Forum Marinum or Heureka and visit the same place many times for the tickets to add up to the price of the Museum Card, 72€. Visiting Heureka 5 times costs 75€, which saves you 3€.
